In April 2009 Governor Charlie Crist sent a letter of commendation to Florida’s 53 SHARP employers. The SHARP award, which stands for Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program, is recommended to companies by the USF SafetyFlorida consultation program and approved by federal OSHA. It is the highest safety honor for small businesses.

“The SHARP award is a prestigious honor, and is a testament to your company’s desire to demonstrate exemplary safety and health management practices,” wrote the governor. “We are fortunate to have companies like yours in the Sunshine State who are committed to provide a safe place to work each and every day.” Charlene Vespi, USF SafetyFlorida program manager, says the governor’s letters affirm his commitment to keeping Floridians safe. “The businesses who earn a SHARP award work hard to get this recognition. I’m delighted Governor Crist congratulated these companies for their ongoing dedication to safety.”
