Cast-Crete produces engineered products for the residential, commercial, and institutional construction industries and competes on the basis of the quality and workmanship of their products, backed up with a lifetime guarantee. In addition, the company has designed many innovative products that are used throughout the industry. Now employing 134 workers in the Seffner plant, Cast-Crete is the largest manufacturer of precast pre-stressed concrete U-lintels and sills in the nation. No stranger to OSHA’s SHARP program, they have been a SHARP company since 2004 and remain in good standing by taking decisive action to abate any safety and health risks that are identified. In 2014, the company maintained an impressive DART rate of 0.7 and TRC rate of 2.2 in comparison to the 2013 BLS national industry average of 4.8 and 8.4, respectively.

OSHA gives its SHARP award to small and medium-sized employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system. To qualify, a company must do the following:

  • request an on-site consultation from USF SafetyFlorida;
  • involve employees in the consultation process;
  • correct hazards identified by the consultant;
  • implement and maintain a safety and health management system that adheres to OSHA’s 1989 Safety and Health Management System guidelines;
  • maintain DART and TRC rates below the national average for the company’s industry;
  • agree to notify USF SafetyFlorida prior to making any changes to working conditions or introducing new hazards into the workplace.
